News Items Podcast with John Ellis

127

Ninety percent of the news out there tells you nothing about where the world is going — ten percent of it tells you everything. Every afternoon on the News Items Podcast with John Ellis, John and Rebecca Darst focus on that ten percent — news that’s interesting, important or both. The podcast is based on John Ellis’ News Items, an email newsletter that goes out to organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations, Samsung Next, and the Wall Street Journal. Tune in every Monday through Thursday afternoon to hear decades of journalistic experience packed into 20 or so minutes of insight, plus guest interviews on finance, U.S. politics, foreign affairs, science and technology.

    Glitches
The content from this podcast is top notch when it works. No other podcast has these glitches. I expect more.

    Glitches Galore
While I love the podcast and look forward to this coming into my feed daily due to the great insight both hosts provide, the podcast consistently has glitches and won’t allow me to listen to more than a few minutes before entirely cutting out. I don’t seem to have any other issues with any other podcasts (even the daily recount podcast, also co-produced by iheartradio). So until this is fixed, I’ll just be hoping that I can get past the first ads section before the glitch.

    Horrible audio issues
I beacame a regular listener until a few weeks ago. I didn’t stop listening but the podcast stopped its glitchless performance. It started disrupting itself in mid-stream and now I can play a few seconds and no more before it cuts out entirely. What a shame. Not happening with any other podcast. I guess this one will just be gone from my library.

1 star to high for this show
Sounds like this guy must believe in the big lie. What do I know, I am just an old retired moderate white guy but this guy really cottons to Cotton and sounds like he agrees with Cotton on every point, never challenging him on obvious 1 sided positions that are really close to untruths. You know, lies. I didn’t think news journalists were supposed to reveal their idealistic bent. That was reserved for the editorial and opinion shows. Maybe he wants Tucker Carlson’s job.

    A little disappointed
I started listening to this because Jon Heileman recommended it. I certainly wasn’t expecting a leftie podcast, but I was definitely hoping for a more balanced approach than the one that I saw in the interview with Tom Cotton. I was a little shocked to hear Mr. Ellis say “the only mandate Biden had was to defeat Trump”. For a serious person this seems utterly ridiculous to me. Does Mr. Ellis really believe that the 81 million voters ONLY voted to remove Trump? People weren’t voting for more social justice, greater and easier access to health care, a robust infrastructure plan, more accessibility to voting, common sense gun laws? I respectfully disagree if for no other reason than the fact that center/ left policies have proved very popular with the American people irrespective of Trump. I was disappointed in how there was NO pushback on Cotton’s comments that Biden can’t get 60 votes AS IF such a super majority of an already gross system of 2 senators for every state irrespective of population is anything approaching an indication of public opinion and wishes. Any thought given to asking Cotton why a body that has 48 senators elected by 82% of the people should have the ability to thwart any progress unless there is agreement by an even greater super majority? In any event, while I will probably keep listening, I was, to be kind, disappointed in the way the interview was conducted. Other than that, I do enjoy it for the most part and usually learn something I didn’t know before.

    I'm embarrased fo Mr. Ellis
Does John Ellis owe Tom Cotton money? I've heard of softballs, but this was more like tee-ball. What would be the point of publishing an interview like this? Isn't all the information available on Mr. Cotton's reelection website? I was confused. Then I googled John PRESCOTT Ellis... Now its clear.

    Listening is important, but…
Do you think you might push back on the sometimes hyperbolic assertions of Senator Cotton? But then maybe you simply agree and it’s just another bubble of like perceptions. Cotton is sharp and intelligent but his characterizations of motives and facts, and his of ignoring obvious contradictions in the service of his political persuasion diminishes his message and the usefullness of your conversations.
