bchacon66Out WestLiving in Los Angeles, how does one stay in touch with the people and places that matter to the art and ecology of this country’s natural spaces? This podcast is one of the best out there for this purpose. Ed does a great job of interviewing his guests, and his guests really enjoy being there! After listening, I always come away a little bit more informed than before. Keep up the great work, Ed!

Seans426Great episodes . .Ed does a lovely job at interviewing and conversing with guests. He does his homework and touches on relevant parts of their story to make the show exceptional. This is a good way to stay connected to the mountain west in many dimensions from conservation, to writing, music and the arts. Thank you, Ed.

NoCo hikerThoughtful. Measured. Worth your Time.I am so grateful to have stumbled on this podcast. It combines the best of long form journalism with great topics. All of my long drives now include at least one episode. it is worth your time to listen, and I don’t say that lightly.

Glacier1975Remarkably well doneI listen to a lot of pods and many on the west. I usually unsubscribe after one or two. This is one of the few I share with western friends. It is not glib. It is balanced. And helpful with plenty of insight on our western land.
-
Naturegrl7A podcast about conservation, but not ALL conservation work!I commented on his Instagram about what happened to a young wolf in Wyoming. The story about Cody Roberts who tortured, maimed, and killed a young wolf pup and apparently this is Legal in Wyoming because Cody Roberts was only fined $250!!! Ed Roberson blocked me on social media. Time to unsubscribe if you’re going to be selective about the topics you choose to speak on. This is a huge topic to discuss about the conservation not happening in Wyoming !

BD GentryThis show shares the Soul of the WestAs lifelong coastal Pacific Northwesterner and person who has a heart for the Mountain West, I find that this show always helps me know this magic part of our our country more. ACM8803Deep thoughtful conversations about the West…and so much moreI can’t begin to recommend Ed Roberson and his work with Mountain & Prairie more highly. I started listening very early on in the pandemic and don’t think I have ever missed an episode. Ed’s conversations with such a wide range of people doing important work in the West and in building and strengthening their communities are thoughtful and inspiring. Ed has also become a friend over the years and to witness his own growth over the years is an example for us all to always be learning, always be open to new ideas, always be open to exploring ourselves as we work to make a difference in our communities.

thinking person222345Goodbye.Another one bites the dust. This is sad. I was enjoying older interviews but now it’s all about climate fear. I had a feeling that it was going this direction and the most recent episode confirms it. And, oh, if you didn’t know, everything is trumps fault.

bigsky1714Love the West…if you do, this is a must listen. Awesome stuff all the time. Download and enjoy!!!!

Carrie ConteyOutstanding interviewYour interview with Katie Sever of Ft. Lonesome was soul-satisfying. Every word made me love and admire my dear friend Kathie more than I already do (which is a lot!). Her clarity and humility and honesty and depth came through and shined brightly. Fantastic interview. Thank you!

hockeyandlaxBest Podcast About The American WestNot only does Ed interview a wonderful breath of guests but he cultivates the best book recommendation list for books pertaining to the west, ranching, land stewardship, grit, history, and other issues!! Not only do I enjoy the new episodes, I also love going back and listening to old favorites!
-
k_bakkenIf you want to be endlessly inspired, listen to this podcastI get the butterflies when a new episode is dropped from this podcast. The conversations that Ed has with each guest is kind of like a dream come true. Especially if you're within the world of conservation in the American West. Even if you're not, these episodes showcase people from all backgrounds finding and creating ways to share stories and conserve history, environment and culture in these spaces. It's truly incredible and shines a really wonderful light on the people who are doing the work.

Mountain RichInspiring, educational, cognitive, entertainingListen to educated, thoughtful interviews with artists, conservationists, ranchers, hunters, and naturalists—and some who inhabit all these roles. Learn how humans live cyclically with land, plants and animals through birth, death, and the lives of it all in between. It’s always so refreshing to hear cognitive and educated voices who can see beyond a polarized political climate to the truth that we are all connected by the natural world we’re all part of, like it or not. Ed Robertson engages guests with preparedness and probing questions to expose ideas and practices and life stories that would otherwise go unheeded. And his voracious advocacy of reading is an important message for all. Keep it up, Ed. Bravo!
-
A LorayA must listenThis show is phenomenal. Add it to your follow list immediately. Every episode features incredible figures doing meaningful, creative, and inspiring work in the West that you need - and will want to learn about. Ed’s approach is an easy listen but packed with solid questions and an always thoughtful approach. I only wish we had him for the East too!
-
MT Trail runnerReally enjoyableI found this podcasts year ago, and have enjoyed it so much. The host is really good at talking to these interesting guests in a way that you kinda wish you were there, could be a part of it. The guests are varied within the broad topic, but all equally passionate. I usually learn a bit and want to do a little more and connect with the people and world around me to a greater and better degree.
-
opencountryramblerThe voices of the modern West, traditionalists to innovators and all in betweenI first came to Mountain and Prairie to listen Ed’s interview with writer David Gessner about his work and experiences. It was the beginning of what is now a long relationship with this podcast. Ed is a reader and a thinker, with an easy conversational style and his lineup of guests shows that he has his finger on the pulse like nobody else - conservation, art, writers, land ethics, water, ranching and small farming, education. M&P is both surprising and relaxing to listen to- and there is a lot of solid knowledge and insight there, easily taken in for future pondering.
-
"Powers-Stroke"The MUST LISTEN podcast of the WestThe variety of guests, topics, and insights all create a love story for the American West! Conservationism, sustainability, the arts, and family are all routine topics and they never disappoint. I can’t recommend this podcast enough!

3mtboysandagirlThis gives me hopeI just finished the Monica Tranel podcast and between Ed’s incredibly thoughtful questions and Monica’s humanity in answering, it gave me the fresh dose of hope I needed in times such as these. Politics is not a dirty word during this conversation. Democracy is a verb and I feel compelled to invest.

manlike.A conversation I needed to hear.I’m not sure how I missed your podcast up to this point. As I was listening to you and Mark Kenyon having a sensible conversation about humans interacting with the natural world— I looked through your previous episodes. As I was seeing conversations I was looking toward forward to hearing— it made me a little sad that Edward Abbey couldn’t be here for this part. To see his mission carried forward by thinking people. I was hooked when Mark listed Desert Solitaire as his first book and it made me happy to hear Cactus Ed discussed with due affection and respect. He hit things hard at a time when issues needed to be hit hard. And he kept his sense of humour. I’m already looking forward to the Chouinard interview. Peace. Ps. When I started reading Blood Meridian I remember being on a flight over the Atlantic and halfway through I got to a point where Cormac McCarthy had pushed so many buttons I shut the book and didn’t go back to it for a whole frigging year. Later I got cocky and was listening to it as an audiobook working in an impossibly tight crawlspace and my trouble light broke at a really bad moment. I don’t pretty much don’t do crawlspaces anymore.
-
tytwaltersAn honest portrait of the new westI have no idea how I have missed this podcast until recently. I’ve been diligently catching up on the last several years on my daily commute. So many amazing and inspiring stories from some people I’ve known of, but more importantly those I’m just learning about. With so much glamorization of the American west in modern media, it’s refreshing to know there are like minded individuals who value this landscape for what it truly is.
-
Tim DonnerFantastic show with enlightening conversationsIf you want to know about all aspects of protecting and connecting with the American West this is the show for you! Enjoy the engaging and deep conversational aspect of this show and learn something about this wild place we call home. Definitely check this show out!
-
dannywhitewaterAmazing curation of conversations about the American WestThere is a complex network of elements that comprise the mystique, raw beauty, wildness, and lore of the American West. There is no better podcast that curates those elements, and Ed masterfully explores the channels that individuals follow to experience this unique place. I never expected that a person would go such lengths to talk about music, literature, history, art, land management, ethics, and adventure that define this place but I’m sure glad Ed does.
-
joseyanaisBest podcast out thereNot only an incredible podcast about the beautiful western United States but also where I have found some of my favorite books.
