Luke BonnettRaw, Real, and Necessary!I found The Standard Podcast around 4 months ago and have been hooked ever since. I have went back and listened to every episode in this time, and I can honestly say that I have been inspired by them daily. If you are a firefighter, in EMS, or simply someone who needs to hear the hard truths about leadership, hard work, determination, and a no-excuses attitude, these guys are here for you! These guys provide an atmosphere that can be enjoyed anywhere, from sitting at home relaxing to grinding it out in the gym. I believe that is what makes this podcast special, what they speak about and the guests they have on their show are all raw, all real, and all necessary to hear in order to better yourself mentally, physically, and professionally!

Growth hurts and it can’t happen in the comfort zone. Truly challenges you to be a better person, father, husband, firefighter daily. As Firemen we can never allow our standards to be lowered for anything or anyone. Lives depend on it.

Douglas KaufmanMade Me BetterBeen needing a podcast like this for a long time. Though I’m not the fittest or fastest this podcast encourages me to become better everyday at life and at my job. Helps me refocus the purpose of my life and health. You guys have brought an example to follow. It’s like sitting in the kitchen at the house listening to your big brothers. The back step, the senior man 1,2 and 3, man up and so many other episodes have challenged me to keep moving. Thank you guys. Keep my family and department in prayer as y’all keep going! God bless y’all!

JordanAnnHMotivatingI came across this Podcast through Fit To Fight Fire. And from then on kept listening and now have the podcast saved in my library. Previously working in fire and EMS I appreciate and relate to the content. However on a deeper level I believe much of the content about character and mentality transfers into daily life. And although I’m no longer currently in either service, I appreciate the straightforward content that reminds me to be a person of character, because ultimately it’s not about what you are but who you are. Thanks for the podcast! “No one cares” 👍
-
Jtalley97GreatnessThe wide variety of topics make this podcast a daily listen for me! Truly inspiring stuff and I am happy to support and spread the word about it! Keep up the great work! Sincerely, Jacob Talley

brandonrodrigoDedicated to better the craftThese guys who I’ve never met, have already made such a huge impact in both my life and mindset. Fireman ChrisAwesome ShowThis show provides advice not only for our fire service journey but life as a whole! So often we separate the two, work and home but there are certainly parallels between them and these guys hit it perfectly every show!
-
HokiesquidLiterally Setting the StandardMore than just words heard on a podcast, we can see the standards John, Tim and Craig set through their shared workouts, no nonsense perspective and by the way they objectively hold themselves and the Fire Service to task through interviews with guests and their published works. Whether you get a paycheck to run calls or you’re volunteering on your own time, The Standard is a great resource for any Firefighter seeking to up their professionalism.
-
Travis CourtneyHits homeGreat podcast that hits home on what we can control: our physical and mental fitness. Great stuff.
-
azfireravenFitnessJust listened to the episode The wife behind the letter. My department has a fitness program and a yearly fitness test we have to complete in a certain amount of time. It is supported by upper management and council. It is nice to know other spouses of firefighters are working to help their shift life be better.
-
mike15041504Proverbs 27:17Amazing podcast! I have learned a ton from this podcast but more importantly the content keeps me focused on striving towards becoming the firefighter/man I want to be. Thanks MW
-
Nonono13Accountability.Good podcast with fantastic information. Can’t give it 5 stars though just because of all the religious talk.
-
Kschneider317Always learning! This podcast always deposits something good. You will hear great training concepts, encouragement and most importantly leadership. Very valuable!
-
Saturn PonyThese guys are the real dealThis podcast and its hosts are exactly what the fire service needs. They are about doing the right thing and truly serving their community, not themselves. They also really think outside the box and keep an open mind.
-
ryanzeppaThank youI have an interview for a fire department and I’m so excited to talk about myself and how I live my life through this lens!
-
Tonyb_808Inspiring and EducationalLove listening to this series. I’d say that my favorite episode was #11 featuring Jeff Clark. Coming from a chief who was talking about leadership, it impacted me greatly as I was going through the hiring process at the time, therefore, I was able to use all of his “advice for probies” to help me through that early phase of my career (and throughout).

Camel City FF“Life wouldn’t be what it is, it wouldn’t be full of meaning without emotions.”The episode with Jim Hensel about purpose, defining yourself, and your mindset is one you should really sit down to listen to and reflect upon. I listened to it twice because of this question asked: “In your greatest moment of opportunity or your darkest hour, will you be enough? Can you count on yourself and can other people count on you?” Sounds very similar to the question of “are you Fit to Fight Fire?” This can mean the difference between being ready and being prepared. tvonlohrGreat podcast!Love this podcast for my commute into work every third day! Gets my mindset right for a great 24. Episode 018 was my favorite and most inspiring to this day. Zac Varela telling it like it is, holding nothing back! Loved it!
-
sasmith36Saved my lifeEpisode 32 helped save my life. Hearing how PTSD affects us all differently and not to compare how we are doing mentally to those around us. I listened to this episode at the right time in my life. Hearing his story helped me reach out for help as I was seriously considering ending it all. Fit to Fight helps me stay physically fit, and mentally fit!!
-
horrifed2019Best episode that inspired me.The episode that has inspired me the most is 027 Curt Isakson I have taken a class from Curt after listening to the podcast. I can’t say enough good things about how this podcast motivates me every day. A great listen on the way to work to get fired up. Thank you for keeping the fire going.
-
mjf1027Episode 33I thoroughly enjoy the FitToFightFire podcast and try to listen to it every morning on my drive to the firehouse. All the ones I’ve listened to have been great but episode 33 has been my favorite thus far. Chief Thompson’s view on firefighter retention and “buy in” spoke volumes to me and is something I truly respect and admire. Keep ‘em coming! Much love from San Antonio, Texas. -Michael Franco

Wes WestermanOlson impacted me the mostWhile I am always encouraged by all the podcasts, Brian Olson’s interview impacted me the most. I really appreciate him sharing about his experience with search training in the beginning of his career. It’s totally how I felt but just did not say anything. Additionally, while I have lifted weights for years I was always unsure of myself for taking on the bigger lifts to develop real strength gains. I attempted Starting Strength’s Novice Linear Progression after listening to Brian’s interview and became stronger in my mid thirties than I have ever been in my whole life. I felt unsure of it at first but I realized other guys have done this and been successful, so there is I reason I can’t do the same. Gratefully I got to experience that success as well.
-
glennlewellenBest Podcast out there.Mark VonAppen, Brian Brush, Curt Isakson, and Kevin Shea are just a few of the awesome podcasts you guys have. You can’t go wrong with any of them!
-
stevevriezeGreat Podcast episode 037It’s been a while that I’ve listen and recently got back to listening. Enjoyed episode 037 with Matt Chan. Encouraged that a world class CF athlete feels the same aches and pains that I do. Loved hearing how he deals with it so I can incorporate a similar routine in my life.
