MishaBDC”mon Guys, Do better.I was most interested to hear The Dixie Dogs were inbound on the podcast. But what a disappontment from this DP diehard.i own most of the DD’s records and come and go with them, but you really failed to grasp both what they did and why it matters. You chronically mistake instruments and Sound modifications you hear. I could list about ten you got wrong, but why ? You wouldn’t care, even though it’s your job as “experts” to know such things. The whole “This sounds like “Night Court” , line of conversation was idiotic. You have the relationship totally backwards.Egghead Hollywood studio players and arrangers loved bands like DD’s in the 70’s and borrowed their sound patina for tv themes. But you were eating Count Chocula for breakfast then, so you , again, don’t care about these matters. Your guest was a bundle of disinterest and lack of knowledge. People expect a guest panelist to add something meaningful to the dialogue. He added zip. He didn’t know the music and didn’t like it. If I hear “I haven’t heard this record in years” or “I’don’t think I’ve ever listened to this all the way through” on your show, I’m gonna implode. The least you can do when you see a record on the schedule is slap it on the player and refamiliarize yourself. Again, that’s what “experts” do. So you don’t claim to be “Experts”? They why are you doing this at all ? I wrote a weekly newspaper column about classic rock long before it was called classic rock. I was mocked because I loved bands like DP, who were painfully unhip.I tune into you guys to get a tidbit or two of new information, or to refresh what I know -good or bad- about a record. Stop jibber jabbering so much about how you spent your weekend and take this music seriously. You waste the first 20 minutes of pretty much every show. I want to like your shows, but you really need to up your game. I’m gonna help you. In early 2009 I drove from Texas To Topeka, Kansas to see the 35th Anniversary Show by Kansas. Steve Morse sat in and it was a fabulous night as they randomly selected material from throughout their career. Morse left me gobsmacked when he joined David Ragsdale on the violin (seriously) for “Dust In The Wind”. He also blew the room away with his guitar work on “Musicatto” and “The Preacher”. You need to find “There’s Know Place Like Home” ( not There’s No Place Like Home" from 1976)and give it a serious review. If you don’t care for it, that’s fine, but take it seriously and know its significance (Kerry Livgren sat in as well) in summing up a storied career. If you want a guest who knows the record and the show, I even made it onto the DVD, by accident. I spent about 25 minutes hanging with Morse before dress rehearsal. I’ve thrown down the gauntlet. Please upgrade your efforts.

PrairieRockerNate and John are the best!Nate and John are highly knowledgeable, but also love to incorporate knowledge from other fans. Not only have I learned more about and relived Deep Purple’s catalogue, I’ve discovered other related artists like Whitesnake and Schenker. Nate and John always keep the show light and funny. Their humor is truly contagious. If you miss late college nights listening to music and sharing liner notes with friends, this podcast will put you back in touch with this part of your musical heart.

aeromurphVery, very in depth podcastI recently discovered this podcast. The two hosts definitely know their stuff. I am a fan of the band in the States. I was surprised to find out the hosts are in America as well. I was expecting them to be from another country considering Deep Purple is much more popular than in the United States. My favorite episodes are the deep dives into the albums.

Toddzilla1225Too far off the deep endI’m on the fence about the podcast. I love that it focuses on all the branches of the DP family tree. But it takes way too long to cut thru the fat and get to the meat of the episodes. For example, I’m a huge fan of Glenn Hughes. But I don’t have 3 hours to devote to a discussion about one album. Especially when forty minutes into the episode you’re still talking about the album cover and haven’t gotten into the music itself. As a result I don’t listen to the podcast as much as I’d like to. I won’t listen to DP Podcast in my car. I opt for other podcasts instead, and save DP Podcast for when I’m home and can fast forward to the highlights.

DaverooniPerfect Strangers no moreIve always considered myself a casual Deep Purple fan and more of a Rainbow guy. I went into this podcast expecting to check in on the occasional episode. After a handful of Rainbow and Ozzy episodes, I knew that the format would lend itself to my enjoyment of the Purple albums I only ever glossed over. I’m now a hooked fan of both the podcast and the band. In middle school my lit class had a project where we got to make a three song soundtrack for this book we were reading. I chose Deep Purple’s Perfect Strangers even though it wasn’t relevant to the book. At the time I had a copy of Stone Cold Metal(a compilation Stone Cold Steve Austin’s favorite metal songs) and wanted to shoehorn that track in somewhere because I enjoyed it so much(and it was the entrance music to a wrestler that I liked, “The Franchise” Shane Douglas). The other two songs were Fly by Sugar Ray(as was the style at the time) and a techno remix of the X Files theme…one out of three aint bad. P.S. Stone Cold Metal features DPP alum Dio and Rainbow as well(here’s a loosely related episode for ya!)

VoodooOoze“Men In Time” would’ve been cooler. This podcast rules & if I had it my way, it would’ve been called that. Oh well, like Ozzy Osbourne said on his 1994 album “Rock And Roll Over”: “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.”

Frozen BruiseLove this Podcast!Back in 1974 when I was 13 years old I was at a friend’s house shooting pool when he played the album Burn. I was hooked, and they became my favorite band. So I have been a fan for 48 years. My wife has told me she’s going to play Smoke on the Water at my funeral. I really enjoy the fact that Nathan and John are musicians and are able to explain things like how something is being played, how it is recorded, or how difficult it is to play a particular song or part, etc. For so many years I felt like I was the only person who liked Deep Purple. back in the stone age when I was in high school, I had friends who wanted to ride around in my car with me. They knew that there was price to pay if they did—they had to listen to Deep Purple! So glad that this podcast exists. I really enjoy listening to Nathan and John, they sound like two guys that I could really enjoy hanging out with. Great job, great conversation, lots of humor, all while listening to Deep Purple—5 stars!!!

mike in cleVery knowledgeable guysThey are beyond devoted to this band. You will learn something, not just about Deep Purple, but other intersecting bands as well. By their very long friendship, these two hosts will entertain you thoroughly.

DP Fan in WAEnjoying the ShowRecently began listening and enjoying it quite well so far. I need to go back and listen to older episodes when I have time. I look forward to learning more about one of the bands I love best! Listening from Lake Tapps, WA area.

nate the weathermanAmazing podcastCame across this podcast months ago and never got a chance to listen to the podcast until the summer and anyone interested interested in music history, or if you came across it by accident… you’ve come to the right place! Love listening to the podcasts from Moorhead, MN

The Real Fielding FowlerSpike Approved! With faces for radio, and voices for podcasts, Nate and John bring an awkward enthusiasm for Deep Purple and the extended Purple family. Their banter is genuine, and even when it goes off-topic, it remains entertaining and an easy listen. I will definitely remain a patron, at least until the pandemic ends and the strip clubs re-open. Raise your glass of coffee milk, cheers to Deep Purple and the Deep Purple Podcast! This review is approved by Spike the Rock Cat.
-
TBPCGreat content... even better atmosphere! They talk to each other, yet somehow I always feel part of conversation! Love learning more about DP (and the family of bands) but it’s the fun atmosphere that draws you in.
-
BreisHeimHeeere’s Johnny and Nate! These guys are like the Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon of the podcast world, and I mean that as a great compliment. Very entertaining show!
-
Well DisguisedGreat guys, great showI thought I was a big Deep Purple fan...then I discovered these guys. They do a wonderful job of truly digging deep into the entire world of Deep Purple, and if you know anything about the history of the band, that gives them a wide latitude of things to explore. The Twitter account is fun to follow, too. This is well worth your time if you have any interest in DP.

ElectricEye87Let’s Go Space Talkin’I rate this podcast 5 Ritchie Blackmore floppy hats. Never thought I’d enjoy listening to a podcast where guys talk over songs I love, but here I am. Extremely informative, a solid blend of humor and content, and the guys are very easy to listen to. When listening to Whoosh! for the first time, I even found myself thinking about what they might have to say about it when their review dropped. It’s perfect aside from the occasional swear word. I would expect that kind of language at Denny’s, but NOT HERE! Other than that, all I hear is burn.

Ridin the Meme OutThe BestOne of the best podcasts to exist!

Bono's EgoLove itDeep Purple Podcast: a perfectly cromulent podcast. Haha. Love what you guys do and I look forward to every show.
-
DopefishLots of detail, fun listen!Glad to find a podcast that gives a crap about the fiddly detail about a band I like in the same way I do. Great listen if you’re at all into Deep Purple beyond Smoke on the Water!
-
JConUKWho knew there are even bigger DP fans than me?I love listening to these guys. They are deep (sorry) fans, but they don’t just say everything is great. They are honest and smart and fun to listen to — every DP will enjoy this.
-
Dubbleagle1st listenI saw this show when it first aired , 14 years old I was . Huge impact on my rock n roll sensibilities. Great to hear your thoughts !
-
Lionel_Hutz_Unbelievably Researched Deep DivesOn some timeless classic albums, and some pretty terrible ones. It's been great to hear the backstories on some of my alltime favorites, like "Machine Head" and "Burn". But even better, hearing 7+ hours of indepth analysis of a talking animal concept album is what has kept me sane through quarantine.
-
assdf Fhh hhj I'll lVolumePlease turn up the music level, it is barely audible. It would make this much harder more listenable. Content great!
-
MikeOfTheTerribleOpinionWhat’s not to like? Two old friends investigating and discussing the fascinating music and history of Deep Purple. Hard to think of anything better, in my opinion.
-
Sgt. Rock 24The best (not just because it’s the only)Great podcast! These are not experts flexing their knowledge of facts and trivia. It’s two friends having casual and entertaining discussions about all things Deep Purple related. It reminds me of hanging out and talking music with my friends. I consider myself a die hard Deep Purple fan but these guys have opened my eyes up to things I never noticed and given me a fresh perspective on things I know by heart.
-
albert caderMust listen for fans of PurpleExcellent podcast. Well researched and presented by the host. Always entertaining and informative.
-
Scott ListenerGreat Deep Purple Deep DiveThis show makes my every Monday. Not only have I learned so much about my favorite band (I really thought I knew so much more!) but I enjoy the opinions conversation of the hosts. All I can say is: Encore!... :) :)
-
CH-another CHDeep PurplestProbably from my older brother, I got a 45 of Kentucky Woman when I was 8. The guitar solo was mesmerizing to me at the time, ... perfectly crafted. Since then, the band has always been floating in my top 10. Knowledgeable in-depth discussion covering all MK incarnations by the hosts, track by track. Definitely worth a listen for older DP fans or someone curious about the band. Learn about one of the greatest, more under appreciated, influential bands in rock music.
-
yah buh deeFinally! Finally a deep deep purple podcast. Amazing work. Love the band, love the music, love the hosts of this podcast. Just like Black Sabbath sent me to deep purple, Sabbath Bloody Podcast sent me to this podcast. Up to machine head episode and loving every episode so far. Keep up the great work
-
gardowpIt is like talking to old friendsNate and John's conversations about Deep Purple and the extended family of Deep Purple are well researched and provide laugh out loud moments with their off the cuff banter. It is like I am with my life-long friends talking about our favorite records and concerts that we enjoyed 30 years ago. Never being much of a Deep Purple fan, these fellas provided me with insights to appreciate the work of the band and the associated acts to become a fan. If I could give this podcast 6 Pilgrim Hats, I would. Butters!
-
ExplorationsofaTommy Bolin! So happy that you guys do intelligent discussion on Deep Purple but you actually discussed Tommy Bolton’s solo and sideman output in the 70’s! That was just awesome to hear discussion about Cobham, Mouzon, Energy, Zephyr, etc. They do a great job of discussion as well and you can tell they have good musical ears.
-
BLCKSBBTHThey said something very importantThis became my favorite podcast when they called attention to the fact that DP's concerto was composed (by J Lord) as an organic interlocking of rock band and ochestra, whereas S&M is Metallica playing greatest hits with strings added. I can't beleive it took 20 years for someone to call attention to this publicly.
-
LDeepBoogieFinally a Podcast on Deep PurpleI’ve been waiting for a podcast on this band forever! Great information by two old friends discussing classic albums by the band and discovering new material! If you have any interest in DP you need to check this out!
-
HymiepabA Deeper Purple....These two guys are not held to the conventional notions of the band.....and that's a very good thing! If you're not afraid to look outside the more conventional realms of "Machine Head" and "Made In Japan", this podcast gives another listen to some underrated periods of Purpledom!
-
Bogue Herb LivesMark 3!It took me awhile to warm up to the podcast. I'm a big Purple fan but Mark 1 leaves me cold. However, when the show about the concerto popped up I started to get interested. Then Mark 2 and the five great albums. Now for the cream: Mark 3. The Burn episode was great and now I'm chomping at the bit to hear Nathan and John's take on my favorite DP album, Stormbringer! Keep up the good work guys. Great format and knowledge. Good to hear real fans talk about this great band.

n/a n/aThe deepest purpleI don’t know anything about Deep Purple and even I am enjoying the podcast. Two cool, knowledgeable guys. If you like Deep Purple, what are you waiting for? I’ll wait for an answer.
-
Matteo MasielloAbout time!I am not a friend or family of the hosts. This is a good podcast that focuses on one of my favorite rock bands. Thank you Sabbath Bloody Podcast for recommending it. So far I am satisfied with the hosts and their novice approach to the band's history. I look forward to future episodes.
-
a Deep Purple fanIt's about timeA Deep Purple podcast is long overdue. These two guys really know their stuff.
