Midnight Local

When you spend all day in a studio shooting a YouTube series about drinking, things can run off the rails in a hurry, and carefully managing that chaos is vital if you’re going to make a show like How to Drink, and that’s what Greg & Meredith have done for years. Here at Midnight Local we give into that chaos and let the rails be damned. These are the conversations that make you pause the movie because it just can't wait. Things like how the Hays Code destroyed cinema from 1934 - 1968, why David Lindelof should never be able to hold a pen again, and the fact that Joss Whedon doesn't live up to the morality of his own characters and also has tiny teeth. Midnight Local is a place to get weird about movies and shows and the rest and go beyond the who, what and where.

Love the show, but audio is too low.
Want to give a 5 star, but the audio is too quiet compared to the ads and other podcasts.

    AUDIO LEVELS
Greg, Meredith, you have interesting things to say about movies and I love hearing your opinions. BUT the way the audio jumps in decibels from your content to the commercials is ridiculous! Please please please revisit how you are editing the audio levels so I don’t have to race the commercials to turn down my volume by almost 10 clicks every time. Thanks!

    Awesome
I love the show not for the movie reviews specifically but because I truly enjoy hearing these two have a conversation. Can’t recommend enough.

    Audio Levels 😞
Hey guys! Love the show! I have listened to every episode. Found out about the podcast from watching HTD and have been watching it for a long time there. The only concern I have about the show is that I believe the audio levels are too low. Most other podcasts that I listen to, the audio levels are much higher. Again, I am a big fan of the show and listen to every episode you guys put out. Keep up the good work!

    So glad they are back
I had lost hope, but like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Meredith and Greg are back. Seriously though, super great movie podcast, the banter between the two of them is always a delight. Studio 71 can choke on one.

    Glad You’re Back!
So happy to see this pod drop! What a nice surprise!

    Often insufferable
To start, Meredith is great. No notes. But H2D Greg and Midnight Local Greg are, seemingly, two very different people, and the latter regularly comes across as a profoundly arrogant person who is unable (or merely unwilling?) to exercise empathy. Weird and offputting.

Just a fun mix of smart nostalgia and commentary
Came here from How to Drink, but found a great source of interesting takes on Gen X (and more recent) pop culture. Remarkably clever and well paced, which is so rare in this medium. Thanks for the work.

    Perfection in unimPortant Podding
I was really glad to hear that Greg and Meredith were making this supplemental content in addition to the How to Drink channel — if ever you had sought the brilliant and sophomoric banter of these two goons sans the clickbait necessitated by YouTube’s algorithm, look no further than Midnight Local!

    MEREDITH.
Listening to Meredith discuss Everything, Everywhere, All at Once with Greg is every conversation I have with my bf about things I like. Especially what she said about Greg stretching for reasons to dislike things. Thank you Meredith. You’re doing a saint’s work. But you two differ on your likes and dislikes without being insulting to one another so you get the five stars.
  • Um...Actually
    First five stars
I’ve been listening to podcasts for about a decade now and have had dozens that I’ve loved dearly for hours and hours, but this is the first one I’ve ever actually taken the time to rate. I found Greg and Meredith through How to Drink and loved them there, stumbled upon this and it just confirmed that I want them to be my friends. Really cool hearing them talk about films they love with perspective that is both intimately informed and hugely entertaining.

    How to Think
From the creators of the hilarious and educational YouTube show “How to Drink” comes this clever and thoughtful—And sometimes hilarious— pod about movies: what they mean to our culture, what they pull from our brains. Glad to have these folks putting out more content, I love their companionship and delving into THEIR theatre-loving brains.

    Finally!
I love anything with Greg and Meredith in it! There chemistry together works really well (NO THEY ARENT MARRIED) Their takes on movies is interesting to listen to the whole way through! Can’t wait for more!

Fantastic show from the folks at htd
Great show that uses movies as a jumping off point to discuss culture. Greg and Meredith’s long friendship definitely comes across in the chemistry they have with one another.

    Great show
The conversations and critical analysis from Greg and Meredith are great. One thing that might be cool is if they were able to share the topic of the next podcast so the audience could also watch the movie or whatever ahead of time.
