    More than nostalgia
This pod would have been fun enough if it was simply a “remember when” for 2007-2012 hip hop, but the brothers did a great job of telling the story of the individuals behind many of the most popular blogs, and then explaining the many reasons for their demise. Definite must listen.

    Remarkable
Itsthereal and their ability to tell stories, or just create entertaining content, is remarkable. I have never not enjoyed something I have consumed by then. I am a nostalgic mf and this has been my favorite project they’ve done. I, like many of us who tuned in every week, was emotional when it ended. Not just because of the subject of the episode but also because this, too was over. Well done guys.

    Godbless Eric & Jeff

    Necessary Education
Jeff and Eric Rosenthal have told an essential story of hip-hop history. Being a ‘90s dinosaur, I had never heard the name Eskay and I’m so grateful to be educated on his powerful role in hip-hop of the 2000s and ‘10s. I wonder if something can be done at the Universal Hip-Hop Museum to document the erased era.

    Setting the bar
I’m a TV producer by trade and have been laid off. If/when I get back in the game, I’d like to tell stories on the level of ItsTheReal. The love, care, and commitment to excellence shines through. Nah fa real fa real!

    Closeness > Closure
It never felt like the blogs (or The Blog Era) ever got their deserved send off. No eulogy for the sites lost, no statements for next moves, no FAQs for where to find some semblance of the content source and community that had become a cornerstone of our daily lives…nothing. I don’t know what I was expecting upon pressing play but I’ve gotten everything I was looking for and more. The stories, the storytelling, THE STORYTELLERS. This series was a celebration and highlight of The Blog Era and the people in it, of it, and around it more than it was a mourning for the sites and community lost. Truly remarkable work and a fitting honor for transformative times. Thank you.

    Trip down memory lane
As someone who was a frequent visitor of blogs like 2DopeBoyz (and who saw the work of ItstheReal), this podcast is a fun trip down memory lane. It’s cool to hear the stories of the people whose passion and commitment turned them from fans on the outside into major tastemakers who put a spotlight on artists who may never have broken through. Worth a listen!

    Storytelling At Its Finest
Jeff and Eric have done a masterful job of peeling back all of the layers in narrating this seminal part of rap’s history that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks and gone unreported, if not for them. Each episode is better than the one before it. Much respect also to Greg Mayo who had the unenviable task of putting so many different genres of music into the score and yet he nailed it anyway. This is their love letter to a culture that for some reason still has some critics questioning their motives and bonafides. At the very least, this is their thank-you to the culture that they’ve managed to make a living from due to their passion for it. These guys have never cut corners in anything they’ve done and the Blog Era is a perfect example of that.

ITR is the perfect duo to document this moment in rap history
Awesome podcast. Documents a critical time in the evolution of music/rap music to a digital/streaming world, but through the eyes of the consumer who for a brief window had a voice through the blogs loud enough to alter the landscape.

    Top Tier Podcast
I honestly listen to podcast all day, every day. 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Yes, holidays included… This will go down as one of the best limited series podcast ever. If you lived in the blogs of the this time, you are transported back to these ground breaking sites, the artist and the feelings they gave you. Even if you weren’t, the story telling is so compelling you would be hooked from episode one.

    EXCELLENT.
As an artist pre and during the blog era, I was skeptical on how this era would be captured. Foolish me, The Blog Era podcast is one of the most well researched, documented and factually told from an Artist, Industry and cultural POV. Hats off to the team, this is a major win! Well done.

    Best Blog Era coverage
This covers everything during the era and really brings me back. I have one critique, the scoring of the podcast is horrible. Sounds very out of place and overly dramatic, from spaghetti western sounds to 80's cheesy hip hop beats, it needs to go. It takes me out of focusing on the interviews time to time.

Make a pod like this on every era of hip hop
    Why not?

    My go-to at the moment

    NOT YN
It’s refreshing when quality journalism and story telling meets the things you love most. I’ve been a fan of almost everything these two and they’re team have done, this being the best yet. History happens right before our eyes and we often miss out on a lot, so for the ones who weren’t there, this can be something to open their eyes to a Early Aughts golden era in my opinion. Thank you, can’t wait to see how this season pans out. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 BOOM BOOKUP BOP BOP BRRRDRDRDRDRDR

    Really good podcast
Appreciate the podcast very informative, and a lot of insight on who is who and what moves was made to help push the culture forward during the transition shift of what was the normal in hip-hop and what lead us to The current state of this thing of ours… -Twitter: @2yaosoner Yaosoner-WelcomeToMarsLLC.com ✌🏾

    Context
What’s missing across so many platforms is research and context. This pod has the gift of both. The Blog Era was an era indeed and it’s great to have it thoughtfully retold. Salute to hard work and 10,000 hours. The episodic series on Hulu is next?

Amazing insight not even hip hop nerds know! Great story telling!
  • Soy Marcos
    Losers disguised as nerds
Well produced show with good interviews that glorify and contribute to the complete downfall of hip hop music. Listen to the pod if you found out about rap from a YouTube link. All others steer clear

ItsTheReal History of How Hip-Hop Was Shaped
Eric and Jeff have done it again. From fans, to participants, to historians, ItsTheReal and their paeans to the architects of not only Hip-Hop culture, but of its unsung heroes and modern-day trailblazers, are sorely needed. You know and love Drake, Nicki, Cole, and Cudi, and with The Blog Era, you’ll know how that love came to be.
