Rita EisenhowerBoldThank you for having the guts to do this. It’s a frank look at the undermining of civil and minority rights.

RxrvToo desperateI have been following Economist for a good 10 years now and this is the first time I feel that they are trying to desperately find religious divide in India. I am quite confident on my thoughts as I grew up in India and I have been living in United States through my adult life, there is absolutely no discrimination and any of the government policies based on any religion. I do understand that there are aspects to the Modi government which is not perfect, however looking at the level of corruption which has rotten the core of the country for last 50 years it is not a greenfield to transform the country keeping its democratic values. It is important for any government to have checks & balances and have investigative journalism in order to do so. I do agree with a lot of critiques in this series however I am giving one star for the fact that the journalist or the editor is desperately trying to find the divide based on religion which does not exist. Kashmir was an Indian state at the time of independence and it was long due to have its special provision removed and be treated as any other Indian state; the journalist ignored the facts that the demolition which happens of the homes in Utar Pradesh where illegal construction and the municipality was taking steps against this encouragement agnostic of who the resident where; India being multicultural country has the same enthusiasm of expressing their faith be it a Hindu Muslim Christian or Sikh or are any other religion, if you cushion that go to India and see it for yourself if you find any discrimination about the state. I do not write reviews that often but I am so disappointed by Economist that I did had to put it in black-and-white this time. Economist, there are a lot of issues in the world which needs to be brought in front of the wall stage but for the sake of your honor don’t try to find first justifications for your preconceived notions.

andres pertierraHelpful primer on Modi’s careerMuch like the previous Economist series on Xi Jingping, this is a great introduction to Modi’s life and political career, focusing each episode on a different stage in his rise to power. Definitely a critical look but for me, as a non-specialist, a convincing one. Great place to start

jaykvastaniMassive bias and incomplete reportingWhen did the economist go the way of New York times and make an emotional story from political commentary? Issues I found in just 2 episodes: - Translation usually missing the point, example: calling focus on hygiene as focus on image in episode 1. - Interviews with only one side of riot affected population. Calling the train burning as “started from a small fight…” Sad to see a narrative about a massively influential person being done from a strong bias. I’d give this one a miss.
