biased-estimatorGood butEnjoyable listen but I feel like you should be less confident in your analysis if you’re wrong picking fights so often and if the guys you single out as clowns/bad/overhyped get to the top of their weight class half the time
-
Jerguson FenkinsSmartest, hardest MMA PodYou’re criminally underrated and under listened to, this is the smartest MMA pod out there. Keep it up or at least find a pill to help keep it up

buffaloglenCan you two shut up alreadyWith all the charisma of the 2nd and 3rd chair tubas in your local high school marching band, these two dyspeptic mouth breathers break down fights and offer fight predictions with an accuracy not seen since Rousey took up boxing. I don’t know what these two look like, but there’s a definite “fat guy and skinny guy” energy to their voices. If this holds true IRL, it might explain why they seem to hate all fighters who look like they get chicks. Since almost all fighters get chicks, the boys here are rarely excited, interested, or complimentary re: their topics of discussion. They will offer a compliment to a retired fighter, but only for the sake of tearing down a current fighter. Usually this takes the form of an absolutely hair brained statement like “Israel Adesanya couldn’t hold a candle to Nate Marquardt in striking” or “Alex volkanovski is a poor man’s Chris leben.” It sucks—it’s not fun to listen to. But occasionally, they’ll hit a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” topic (e.g. petr Yan fans are annoying) and you’ll find yourself saying “just do this more!” Alas, it’s time for a commercial break, and these two are so pedantic they literally need to explain the concept of Patreon to you. Dammit.

Dan_TomGood analysis and entertainmentConnor and Phil are both fantastic analysts who do a great job talking about the more meaningful MMA offerings out there, mixing in great humor along the way. Can’t recommend this show enough for anyone interested in “the finer points of face punching.” Five stars.

notpersonallMostly Conjecture and opinionsI thoroughly enjoy striking analysis, but unlike jack slacks podcast, which provides coherent explanations of techniques flavored with some opinions. This podcast felt to me dominated mostly by conjecture and opinions. In the latest episode It seemed, like aside from watching the fight card, the people on this podcast did very little prep before podcasting, had no clear idea what they wanted to say. But lost my patience when one person asserted that most of Stephen Thompson’s opponents were slow, which was greeted with general agreement. A statement that is incredibly inaccurate considering that he has faced people like Robert Whittaker, Jorge masvidal, Darren till, and Rory McDonald. None of which have ever been accused of being slow before.

Luke in AustinLove this show…even though this Tumen guy talks way too much and definitely thinks he’s the smartest fella around, wherever he goes. It may be true when he’s surrounded by headless chickens and the husks of the lobotomized. But for anyone with an unmolested prefrontal cortex, he’s just a blowhard.

modest mediator and BuddhistHilariously entertaining and on point!Love this... Great stuff!
-
Nate BarkleyVery disciplined segments with an appropriate level of granularity for such a chaotic sportLove when these guys go down a rabbit hole on a match up only to take a step back and defer to the broader dynamic of the fight. They don't lose themselves in the pedantry. The one guy moving to Britain and developing that accent was weird though.

Augustwest24The Antithesis to Brendon Schuab MMA CommentaryFinally, a technical MMA related show. Title of this review says it all. Keep the GREAT work.

Tex RickyThe Right MixYou guys are absolutely insufferably pissy about every single fighter and fight, excessively curmudgeon about the promotions, and consistently poo on fighter’s skill levels that are almost certainly better than yours... and I could not enjoy it more. For years I’ve listened to Jack Slack and ignored this podcast for literally no reason. Just started listening about 3 months ago and I can’t get enough. In my years of practicing combat sports and consuming its media, I’ve grown to love stuck up attitudes coupled with great technique analysis. Keep it up.

Sligo Daveentertaining, insightful analysisConnor and Phil don’t take themselves too seriously, but they provide consistently interesting and thoughtful MMA analysis. This is easily my favorite MMA podcast, and i’m glad to be a Patreon supporter.

Andreas11111262883Best MMA Podcast with continual Technical IssuesHeavy Hands is the best MMA Podcast available. The hosts are knowledgable, intelligent and affable. I frequently gain insight from their analysis and enjoy the banter. However, this is a very unpolished podcast and it sounds like the host has not made a great effort to make is sound more professional. You often hear him clicking his mouse in the background, side snippets of conversation that should edited or various loud background noises. The worst issue is that the cohost continually has a terrible skype connection. Every two or three episodes you can’t understand what he’s saying because the connection is garbled, the call drops, you hear the skype ringtone or something else. It is incredibly unprofessional sounding and gives the whole thing a amateurish feel when the conversation itself is very intelligent and not b-level at all. I used to be a patreon of this show and I don’t understand why they can’t take some of the patreon money and put it towards calling on a long distance landline once a week or just getting a better internet connection. Or even do a second take when the internet improves and record the one that works. I understand this kight cost them a few hundred a month but they certainly make that from the patreon and I would be willing to contribute more if I knew it was being used to this end. It is frustrating to listen to this issue every month and keeps this podcast from being truly great. I hope they understand how this issue undermines their efforts and once fixed Heavy Hands can become the awesome podcast it has the potential to be.

redraider971The best MMA ShowI was an MMA fan long before I came across Heavy Hands a couple years ago, but I’ve learned more about understanding, evaluating, and breaking down MMA since I’ve started listening than I ever had before. This show has made me so much more knowledgeable about, and increased my appreciation of, the sport. I highly recommend this show for anyone that considers themselves a fan and is willing, and looking, to learn.

djnjsdncjndGreat Anal...These guys are amazing at what they do. They really get in there deep. These two guys will make you go deeper than you thought you could. Some times I am in there with them and think it can’t get any better but they bring s whole new level of detail to things I didn’t even think about. They aren’t scared to go places others won’t either.
-

Air LatsAlpha males are not fans of anythingSince it is impossible for an alpha male the be a fan of anything (#science), I am forced to admit that I am not a fan of Heavy Hands. That said, I do have a bit of a crush on Phil. Every time he says “yeah” before he formulates a response to BoxingBusch, I get the strangest tingle in my swimsuit area. I guess I have some stuff to talk to my wife about. Yeah, so, yeah these guys are my boiz. GREAT analyses. Fun, smart and funny af. I’ve been in the game for a looong time. Team Quest Portland back when it was like, TEAM QUEST. I didn’t think anything new was going to increase my enjoyment of our ‘sport’ but this podcast does it. The OTHER tea swilling, podcasting brit who shall not be named here (rhymes with Crack Snack) is tied with these goofs for first place mma analysts for me. LISTEN, JOIN, RATE, PATREONIZE these men. They will increase your appreciation of mma no matter what your experience/knowledge level is. If you don’t enjoy it, you’re either not alpha or you’re dumb, or both. Don’t be a beta dummy. Listen to Heavy Hands and do it loud and proud. I’ve been sad since Dr. Wyman went out for a ‘pack of smokes’ (but actually fled back to academia - some people ain’t about this life) but Phil is great. Like losing a father but gaining an uncle with a weird accent.

zoos47I’m doneIt seems every journalist / mma podcast devotes a certain percentage of their show criticizing Dana white / the UFC decision makers. That is just part of the landscape and something I tolerate listening to MMA podcasts. But this show is getting out of hand. It’s unfortunate because I like the fight break downs and analysis. I’m just tired of the criticism of the UFC business strategy and ethics.
-
educateddummiSUBSCRIBE!!!!no fluff all mma. take out the political stuff and insert technical analysis awesome poscast guys. just what i was looking for 👍
-
MFKKBHToo negative.I’m confused, I’d like to hear the hosts professional record. How about a little less arrogant negativity and more respect.
-
Isabella the catWhat a great podcastThese guys know exactly what they’re talking about. It’s refreshing to get a fact filled take on fights.

whatevermikeChin CheckComing at you live and direct like a chin check, Conor & the good Doctor never fail to provide both insightful and entertaining analysis' of boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and mma. They have unique viewpoints and are open and honest about when they get a match wrong. If you ain't already listening to Heavy Hands while, do yourself and the universe a favor and start listening, asap!
-
hubbz93Weekly stapleProbably the most substantive mma podcast out there, with no-filler. Just solid fight analysis.
-
AlphaXeticalThe 1st, the best, the #1 technical podcast in the worldI've been listening to this show off and on since the inception, and in the past few years it's been the most consistent good analysis of mixed martial arts fights out there. Pat and Conor bring an encyclopedic knowledge for even the most arcane fights, educated eyes, and an enthusiasm for fistic violence that can only be attributed to true otaku of the Octagon.
-
CRE8IVWARRIORBoom!These guys low-kick your legs with knowledge and Superman punch your face with humor. A must Listen.
-
M BanayatAlways worth listeningExpert analysis from both these guys. This is a great listen whether you already have knowledge in the fight game or are looking to learn from a base level about why fighters do certain things and the dynamic between the two men fighting that are being discussed. Great job guys!
-
Triplegem9Awesome Analysis & Corny JokesGreat podcast. Each time I listen I walk away with a small nugget of technical information to carry forward. I love hearing fight nerds breakdown the fights, technique and strategy. I look forward to this podcast weekly. Always a great listen!

ArtofJenI Highly Recommend It!Excellent technical breakdowns. No fluff, no bias, no hyperbole. From patiently explaining subtle nuances to commenting on paradigm shifts within combat sports, the hosts never get too bogged diwn in minutae, and keep the listener engaged and entertained. Listening to this podcast has made me appreciate combat sports in a whole new way.
-
The MS ExpressFavorite face punching analysis aroundIt's true, I love the personalities and the podcast
-
Guy9030DopeThis podcast made me interested in the actual specifics of MMA, and presents fighting in a clear, compelling way. The hosts' banter and style is interesting and they play off each other well.
-
AFX_TWNHeady MMA AnalysisConnor Ruebusch and Patrick Wyman bring the ruckus when it comes to fisticuffs. Their unique style of breaking down fights and flare for showmanship has kept me engaged from the jump and would recommend this podcast to anyone interested in the finer points of facepunching.
-
tornillo prosMakes me appreciate fighters I hate. These guys know combat sports. If you are not careful you might learn a thing or two from these guys. My co-favorite MMA podcast.
-
Directionally-challeng3dVery intelligent & informativeNone of my friends watch or follow MMA so I'm constantly looking for podcasts or add-ons to get opinions & commentary. Heavy Hands has expanded my knowledge of MMA and truly enhanced the whole experience. I took Tae Kwon Do when I was younger but otherwise haven't practiced combat sports. The breakdowns & explanations really help appreciate the dynamism of the sport & different elements of the game. You & Pat have a great dynamic & are both so knowledgeable that your banter flows easily while still delivering really quality content & in-depth analysis. I actually got fight pass in part, to go back and watch fights you've broken down or for fights & fighters from your "styles make fights" series. Just wanted to add that my pass also comes in handy for watching my favorite companion type show, "MMA Depressed Us," & that I really enjoy those as well.
-
rckystarsSomeone Not afraid to criticize the fights...finally!I've been listening to a lot of mma podcasts lately to see what people know and don't know. Most of them don't talk about the styles, and techniques too much but more so like a fighters hair style. So this podcast is a good change! I still think mma and martial arts in general are very behind and unevolved. I can tell because people are impressed by very poor performances and many fights go to decision. But then again I think most people want to see blood however, I want to see speed, precision striking and strategies. If you guys need a new topic why don't you discuss what will make this sport evolve more? What is missing? What will keep fights from going to decisions so often? I know the answers I hope you do too!
-
RubyroofusGreat podcast! Extremely informative and really entertaining.I started really watching the UFC a few years ago. After watching for a little while, I began to appreciate the technical aspects of MMA. Hearing this, a friend of mine recommended I start listening to Heavy Hands. I gave it a try and I've been hooked ever since. Conor and Pat have a great chemistry, and each bring something different to the conversation. The knowledge of the sport I have gleaned from listening to them is immense and I appreciate watching the sport on a whole new level. I highly recommend this podcast to any fan of combat sports, whether it be new or old. You won't be disappointed.
-
JohnnyMillionProbably the best MMA analysisI subscribe to a few MMA podcasts and this one is both informative and entertaining. I'd never heard of either host but they have obvious boxing and MMA knowledge and write for reputed sports sites. Great recaps and previews.
