Learning Machines 101

90

Smart machines based upon the principles of artificial intelligence and machine learning are now prevalent in our everyday life. For example, artificially intelligent systems recognize our voices, sort our pictures, make purchasing suggestions, and can automatically fly planes and drive cars. In this podcast series, we examine such questions such as: How do these devices work? Where do they come from? And how can we make them even smarter and more human-like? These are the questions that will be addressed in this podcast series!

    I’ll be back.
Very freaky, and it’s hard to follow along, it makes me feel very futile. And it was also very strange how I found out about this.they called didn’t answer me hung up and so I continued to call back and it said can’t not complete call at this time message LM 101. So I googled it “message LM101” and this came up. I’m just confused on why they/he/it went about reaching me this way.

    The real deal
This guy is the real deal. Check out his google scholar page, 1000s of citations on machine learning books/articles dating back to the 80s. He is patient and extremely thoughtful in his presentation of this very relevant material. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this podcast. This is when of the very few reviews I’ve written for a podcast, but hoping more reviews will enable more lucky coincidences for others in need of a podcast just like this.

    Fun Presentation of Machine Learning
I’m considering having my kids listen to these episodes. The machine learning facts are presented in a really accessible way, I think.

    Very useful content; Clear explanations
I have listened to a lot of Learning Machines 101 episodes. Each episode picks an interesting topic in the ML world and explains it in a way an interested high school student can understand. I whole heartedly recommend it for anyone interested in Machine Learning to supplement their learning; like reading a popular science book. These podcasts give a very good survey of applications of techniques used in ML and AI. When you hear about topics relevant to your domain, you can go learn it rigorously. Thank you very much for this channel Dr. Richard M Golden!

    Learning Machines 101
I've just finished listening to the first podcast in this series and reviewing some of the material on the LM-101 website. If future podcasts and the associated subject material are as good as what I've heard and seen so far then I am very much looking forward to learning about AI via these podcasts. Thank you Dr. Golden.

    Excellent starter on machine learning
I just started in ML. Lucky to found this excellent podcast. Finished it in five days during my morning walks and commute. Have very good pointers for hands on and reading as next step.

    Clear and logical
Dr Golden has very clear and logical explanations for this very interesting subject. I actually found this podcast a couple years ago, but it didn't stick at the time. I became more interested in AI and machine learning over the past few months, and I am now working through the episodes from the start, and find the podcast to be very helpful in understanding the subject.

    Excellent podcast
Don't let the title fool you, not just for coming up to speed, it is also a great way to stay abreast of recent developments. Congratulations on your publication "How to Identify Hallucinating Learning Machines using Specification Analysis". I have high hopes for open access journals, especially for datasets.

    Great contents, execution could improve
If you can get past the 80s disco music, the phone-quality audio, the 3-minute long intro at every episode, the total lack of spontaneity, THEN this podcast is awesome.

    Very Useful
I have listend to the podcast for a few months, starting with the first episode. It is a great basic introduction. I have really enjoyed the deep learning episodes, and my favorite episode was the most recent episode on the Kernel Trick. This was always hard for me to grasp in my classes, but that episode helped me think about it simply. The only issues I have is the lengthy intro and that I wish the tone would be a little more extemporaneous, as oppsed to sounding like it is read from a script (but I do understand using a script so nothing important is left out). But I suppose I would rather have it sound like it was read from a script than have important information missing, since I don't want to miss out on anything that will help me understand the concepts. I will keep listenin to each episode as they are released!

    Excellent for the uninitiated!
This podcast presents an excellent introduction to concepts of Machine Learning and science. I appreciate the familiar concepts that are used to explain abstract ideas.

    Great podcast
I listen to this podcast on my commute to work, and I've listened to about 25 or so podcasts so far. There's a good balance of breadth and depth on a variety of machine learning topics. I recommend trying this podcast out if you're interested in AI, machine learning, or data science.

The best available podcast for learning about machine learning
Audio alone is not sufficient to really learn this material, but this podcast offers about as much as one could hope for. Based on the first 10 or so episodes my main suggestion for improvement is to radically shorten the intro material. I also think the microphone/recording quality might be improved a little bit, but its not bad. The music is a bit corny but that’s part of the fun for some of us.

Best Exposition on AI There Is
This is the best exposition of the most exciting and practicable aspect of artificial intelligence cleverly explained to a wide range of audiences from novices to experts, using creative metaphors and a clear and engaging and logical flow of ideas. Brian Goldman MD

Best Machine Learning Series on the web!!
This is an amazing machine learning podcast, and really helped me (a novice) gain an understanding of the basics in a fun and digestible way. Dr. Golden has a knack for breaking down complex concepts into fun and interesting examples that everyone can understand. This series is like The Simpsons in that its layered approach provides something that everyone can take something away from. Tremendous replay value - as you learn more ML, you'll discover more layers by repeating the lectures.

    Wonderful podcast
I’m close to 15 episodes into this podcast and it has been quite enlightening. As someone transitioning from a very specialized quantitative background to a more general “data science” role, this has helped me think about things differently as he introduces great concepts and schools of thought in AI and machine learning. Dr. Golden does a good job easing you into the different topics by keeping the show itself high-level. I hope it continues for a long time.

    Great ML Podcast!
Thank you Dr. Golden for publishing this podcast! I find Machine Learning, and AI in general, to be an extremely interesting subject. Your podcasts are educational and entertaining. At times though I do find it hard to visualize some of the subject matter. Yet given the medium it’s extremely difficult to do any better. I look forward to more podcasts to come!

    Brilliant presentation
It is quite rare to find podcasts like this one that covers such broad topics of ML without going deeply into the weeds of mathematical complexity, but at the same time provides a lot of evidence where additional information can be found. Dr. Golden deffinitily knows the matter he talks about and he knows how to make it interesting to keep listeners engaged. Each session is carefully designed and presented with a clear message. I look forward to listen more sessions in the future.

    Great machine learning podcast
I learned about this after iTunes pointed out subscribers also listen to the Data Skeptic Podcast. I’m so glad iTunes algorithm did that, because thats how I discovered this great resource that I am enjoying listening to and sharing with people looking for a slightly more in depth and technical exploration of topics in machine learning.

    Refreshing!
Hands down the best machine learning podcast series I have come across. I wish I had access to this wealth of information earlier because this is pure fun. Great exposition of complex topics. The material covered is carefully chosen so that it is relevant to high-school students wanting to get started in the field, undergrads already taking courses in this area, and graduate students who want gentle reminders of the big picture while they grind through the nitty gritty details of making learning machines work. Keep it coming!

    Great content in here
Long Intro, but the General Content is really good. Pretty simple to follow and to understand this complicated concepts

    Cool Podcast
Hi there, this is so much fun to listen to, I have been listening to all of your podcasts, and like how each episode teaches me something new, information that is easy to understand because of your analogies, it is very “user friendly”. I have told a lot of people about your podcast, I hope they have been listening! This is by far the best discussion on Machine Learning that I have heard. You should stay in the number 1 spot, you have my vote ! I will be back !! Love that part too!
