How To LA

72

How to L.A. aims to drop a little knowledge about ALL the things that affect the people of Los Angeles, whether that’s something that makes our city great (tacos!) or something that we need to work on, like the alarming number of traffic collisions. We serve the curious Angeleno who wants to better connect with our city, discover the new, navigate the confusing and even drive some change along the way.

Support for this podcast is made possible by Gordon and Dona Crawford, who believe that quality journalism makes Los Angeles a better place to live. This program is made possible in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private corporation funded by the American people.

    Misleading
Not sure for the need to create a very misleading intro on your Gascon series, part 3.

    Love the Revival House series
Big fan of the show! Super informative as an LA resident trying to know the city better. As someone who loves movies and all its unique theaters, i am IN LOVE with the Revival House series. Such a well-made deep dive into some spots ive loved but didn’t know much about

    Episode on loneliness
Kudos, the first episode on loneliness was really well done in form and substance. Not an easy topic to tackle in that format and I thought you did it well.

So fun keeping up with this podcast!
I especially love the food episodes where I learn about great and affordable places to eat and the episodes about the history of L.A.’s neighborhoods that never get the spotlight. The host, Brian, is truly the best. Whether you are a fellow Angelino or a curious outsider, a listen will certainly leave you with a greater appreciation for life in the City of Angels.

    Bad audio, minimal content
Their production/mixing where they overlay multiple tracks of people talking makes my head hurt. It’s done a few times, at least in recent episodes. Why? That’s not a normal audio technique. Also, the ratio of content to advertising is poor.

    Essential for Angelenos

How to LA - the best in local, long form journalism
I’ve been a listener to ‘How to LA’ since its inception - where could you get a food review, fashion and technology - in just one week! I’m old enough to remember when the LA Times was the best in long form local journalism…. Brian - I hope the award committees are watching. And kudos as well to LAist studios - your ‘takeover’ of KPCC has brought public radio to a new generation while keeping it informative and entertaining for an old boomer like me. P.S. I’ve been trying to leave a review for a while, Apple Podcasts doesnt make it easy, why not add a ‘rewiew us’ link on the shows laist.com page.

Live in LA? Die in LA? Love LA? This is a must listen
You’ve got time for this gem of a show. It covers everything you need to know about living here, eating here and loving here. Brian is a great host! Many thumbs up.

    Love love love this show
I am obsessed with this show. Someone who just moved to LA, this show provides me with so much information about my new city. I love the show features LA natives who are able to provide information about shopping. We eat what's going on with our local government and even the weather.

Great podcast on LA life, cultures, people and issues
LA is a big and diverse city. As an Angelino, I love the beautiful, vast messiness of the city but it can be overwhelming. This podcast offers short, accessible shows that looks into the people, issues, and cultures that energize the region. So happy I stumbled upon this podcast.

    Captures LA
It’s great to hear a gay Latino man present the news and bring culture and food stories. I leaned about LA all the time. I’m from New York and I am falling in love with this city every time I listen! I want longer episodes!

    New favorite podcast
I’ve been listening to this podcast for the last 2 months and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. The series does an excellent covering different aspects of Los Angeles, including what it’s like to bike here. I’d love to see more stories about getting around the city without a car. The most recent episode did a good job talking about the failure of vision zero and how much work we still have to do in order to make this city safer, and more livable for everyone.

A great guide to the city of Los Angeles in small listens to open your eyes about this beautiful city! Must listen if you’re curious about the City of Angels!
